Marendy walked out on stage. She turned to the audience and held her arms up like a Y and waved. "How's everyone?" she called out.

Selic started solo-clapping, while the rest of the audience sat quietly. Brella walked over, sitting down next to Julian.

"All the songs I'm going to be performing I wrote myself," Marendy explained. "They might be a bit different from other music you've heard. Well here I go with the first song."

The audience watched silently.

Marendy began to pluck at the strings on her lute. She started playing the same note 4 times, setting a beat. After that though, she completely abandoned it. A string of seemingly random notes with an uneven beat. Her fingers danced across the strings as this noise that could hardly be called music filled the auditorium. There was still some sense of rhythm in her playing, but it was strange to the human ear. She kept this up for a few minutes, then paused as her first song of the evening was complete.

"That was... different." Selic said, while Brella started clapping.
"Interesting..." Julian thought.

"I'm not familiar with this thing I'm hearing," Hurshil commented.
"Maybe she was just tuning her lute?" Darny suggested.
Marendy smiled hearing Brella clapping and no one booing her off the stage. "Ok now for my next song," she announced. She began plucking the strings on her lute once more, as her unusual form of music once again began to fill the auditorium. Marendy played and played, her unusual music filling the auditorium for just over an hour while the audience listened to the unique sound. Then, the pase of the music picked up and became steadier. Even to those who didn't know what to make of her playing it was obvious that it was coming to a climax. Marendy's fingers danced across the strings. Then suddenly they stopped. Her concert was over. She hung her lute over her shoulder and addressed the audience.
"Thank you everyone for coming tonight," she said. "It's a real pleasure playing for you tonight. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did."

"That was um..." Selic started. "...different."
Julian leaned over to Selic. "She looks a bit nervous..."
"Huh?" Selic said. "Oh, uh... sorry I wasn't looking at her face."
Julian sighed. "Just go up there and say something nice to her.
"What was that last song called?" Brella asked. "That was my favorite!"

"Moonlight Serenade in the Meadows," Marendy replied to Brella. "I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I know my music is a bit unconventional. I'm sure it'll be really popular someday soon though."
"Well, unconventional is one way to put it," Darny commented. "Though I'll agree with the girl there and say the last song was the best."
