Desiel's legacy

“4646 Tahkow-Boh Nufgol 9:20 AM. Location: New Keshmar.”
In Arkia's guest room for the night while a room was being prepared for her, Desiel wandered around the relatively small room, lost in thought. She sighed, thinking about her family, and how she thought she was disappointing them because of her lifestyle choice. Nostalgic memories arose, as well as the faces of her parents who were still alive in another world. Not this world though. She started remembering back to the invasion. Memories of her parents facing down a whole Nocturnian squad before she ran away for help.
“I need answers...” she thought, just before climbing on the stiff, wooden bed that was draped with a single sheet. She sat down on it, taking her usual meditative position as she began to link herself with the spirit realm.
Not too long till Desiel's spirit wandered through to the Celestial Realm, she came across the spirit of an old monk who seemed to also be participating in meditation in the Corporeal World. The old monk spirit looked over to her. “My dear Desiel... what brings you to me today?”
“Brother Hoff... I'm sorry to bother you during meditation.” Desiel answered, pleased to see one of the elders still meditating this late in the morning.
The spirit shook his head. “Never be sorry for keeping in touch with your loved ones.”
Desiel smiled, then paused, retracting her smile in thought before speaking up. “Actually, I came to seek advice. I... I am conflicted right now.”
“Speak your mind, please.” the kind monk offered.
“Okay then. Well... I...” Desiel said, then paused, sighing. “I have recently found out that... that my entire family was killed in the attack four years ago.” she explained. “My mother, my father, and my brother. And since we lost my sister a while back, that only leaves myself...”
“I am deeply sorry to hear that.”
Desiel nodded, then looked down. “Thanks, that really means a lot to me. But... seeing as I'm the only one left, and took the Bortic oath of celibacy, it is impossible to carry on the family line...”
A moment of silence swept through the celestial space in which they both occupied before Hoff spoke, “Say no more. It is indeed a sacred oath that we must adhere to once taken, but the reality is... only us males are bound by it, despite your eventual insistence.”
“Yeah but...” Desiel said, still conflicted. “An oath is meaningless unless adhered to. You yourself taught me that, Brother Hoff.”
“While that is true,” Hoff stated. “one should never adhere to anything unquestionably. To do otherwise harms us, both morally and spiritually. One must always know our boundaries to keep a rational perspective, and an open mind contains no locked doors.”
“I see...” Desiel said. “So... what you're saying is...”
Hoff nodded. “You said it yourself once before. Our oath is the most irrational practice you have ever came across, even though you found no reason for yourself not to pledge. For anyone to realize the flaws in a culture, especially your own, takes a great deal of an understanding of reality.” he explained. “As beings of the mortal world, it is very important to continue our family line if we are to one day achieve transcendence. However, we of the Bortic practices were outcast from society for our drastic culture. We Bortic monks have since acknowledged Aster's need for us. We sacrifice our own transcendence to allow others a more healthy and prosperous eternity. However, females pledging the Bortic oath achieves quite the opposite of the desired effect. You have indeed honored us with our time with you, and you have enlightened us with your own wisdom. But ultimately, your path may indeed be different from ours.”
“A-are you saying that I should... that it's okay for me to start my own family, Brother Hoff?” Desiel asked.
After a few seconds of silence to let it sink in, Hoff spoke up once again, “If that is what you desire, then go. Continue your family line. Rebuild your family's legacy.”
Desiel nodded and smiled as she started to tear up. “Thank you!” she exclaimed as she leaped onto Hoff, giving him a quick, yet stout hug before standing up. “Thank you so much...”
Hoff nodded as he looked up at Desiel, smiling.
“Well... I had better go.” she said. “I guess I have a lot to do.”
“Good luck.”
Before too much longer, Desiel woke up from her meditative trance. She climbed out of bed, then walked over to the door. She opened it, exiting the room in search for advice from Arkia.
