As she approached the field in the white tank top and light blue hot pants she slept in, Miranda looked around as she fought off a yawn. Having noticed a porch lantern lit earlier she knew that at least one member of the Ralvo family was up already. As the sun refused to come up this early, there was no other noticeable source of light around.
As she walked around the field, she noticed that the short plants she had been avoiding stepping on was growing bigger. Trinta told her their species names many times, but as she was still groggy, she couldn't exactly think of their what he called them at the moment.
“Pssst!” Trinta called out from a few meters away, near the taller plants. As she looked over at him, he motioned her over. He was sporting what looked to be black overalls with a red undershirt.
She ran over to him, slowing down before putting out her arm, using his shoulders to stop herself as she wrapped said arm around them. “I knew you'd be up.”
“Stop that!” he scolded in a low, but annoyed tone. “Why, because I live on a farm?”
“Well what are you doing?” she asked.
He sighed. “...picking bugs off the crops.”
She pulled him close, squeezing around his neck. “Hahaha!”
“What are you doing up so early anyway?” he asked as he broke from her grasp, then went back to his chore.
Before she began her answer, a yawn took over. “Sarenda's sleeping over at her friend's, so I went to bed early.”
“Sure you got enough sleep?”
Her eyebrows twitched upward. “More than usual.”
“Well... okay then.”
She sat down on the ground in between crop rows. “So! Anything new going on in your world?”
“Since yesterday...?” he asked. “Not really. Melimei came over. Mika got jealous, as usual.”
“No, I mean earlier this week.” she clarified. “Forgot to ask yesterday.”
“Oh... let's see...” he said, unknowingly flinging a large bug toward her as she ducked out of its path. It then flew off before it landed on the ground. “I uh... I've kinda been kiss... practicing.”
“W-what?! Kiss practicing? On who?!?”
“At first, once on Kaili-”
“Does Melimei know?” she interrupted.
“Of course not.” he answered, moving down the row.
“Why Kaili?”
He shrugged. “Then both Kaili and... Fedira...”
She gave him a puzzled look. “They didn't mention it to me...” she said before a few seconds of silence. She then scooted toward him. “Well, why... why not come to me?”
He looked back at her. “For what? Kissing?”
She nodded.
He turned back, resuming his job. “You're my best friend. That's completely different.”
“Different?!? We fuck like every week.”
“That's different, Mir.”
“How?”
He looked back to her. “You aren't in love with me, are you?”
“Depends. Has Sarenda started calling you 'daddy'?”
“No.”
She smiled at him. “Then I'm not.”
He turned back, sighing. “Don't worry, Melimei's Pronerian. They practice polyamory.”
She stood up, then walked slowly toward him. “Still, that's not something you should hide from your girlfriend.”
“Yeah, I guess you're right.” he said. “...oh! She invited me to a ball!”
“Salori's ball?” she asked. “Yeah, that's tomorrow.”
“It is.” he commented. “Guess she forgot about it till yesterday.”
“...actually, the invitations just got passed out yesterday.” she informed. “If Melimei told you yesterday, she probably did it right after she got the invitation.”
“Yesterday? You sure?”
She nodded. “The last of the invitations went out yesterday. I overheard Salori's head maid saying that she took care of it personally after running into Melimei and the others at a restaurant.”
“Kinda strange to forget about them till then though...” he commented as he turned back and resumed his morning work, starting on the next row.
She shrugged. “Guess Sal assumed I'd tell them.”
He smiled. “And me, right? Thanks.”
She sighed, shaking her head.
“Events like that aren't your thing, I know.”
“I'm lucky no one asked me. If I make it through tomorrow, I'm home free.” she said, smiling briefly.
He then stood up, looking around. “Do you hear that...?” he said, puzzled.
