Dreva awoke with a dizzying headache. She lifted herself up, holding her head.
“What happened up there?” Mian asked unhesitantly, without so much as a greeting as she sat down on Dreva's bed.
Dreva realized that she meant what happened in her scuffle with Torga. “It was that beastly general...” she answered, then glanced at Mian, noticing that her face was flush, as if she was crying. “Why? Did something happen...?”
“It's... Frila.” Mian said. “When we found you two, she was curled up in shock. She has a nasty throat wound that wasn't on her before.”
“S-she what?!?” Dreva panicked, trying to get out of bed. She stopped, wincing at the pain from her ribs. She noticed that she was in her pajamas. “...is she okay?”
“Stay still.” Mian ordered, then sighed as Dreva laid back down. “The wound looks as if it had already been partially healed, but we had to really work to save her.” she said, then sighed, putting her hand on the bed. “She hasn't talked since we found her. She seems scared out her mind, she refuses to get out of bed or eat.”
“Please, can I see her?” Dreva asked as Ratsi hopped on the bed, licking its owner's finger.
“Not yet. You both need your rest.” Mian said. “Look... Dreva... this is the third time you've gotten your ribs broken this month. Just because you're surrounded by powerful conduit healers doesn't mean you can risk yourself or Frila like that.”
Dreva looked away in shame as Ratsi hopped on her lap, curling up into a comfortable ball. “I... I got carried away again... sorry...”
“I'm not the one you should be apologizing to, Dreva. You need to talk to Frila about this... when she recovers.” Mian scolded. “You... you know this was one of the concerns your father had.”
Dreva sat there in sorrow without responding.
“Look... I don't know what happened out there, but if it involves General Ithra, we're getting to the bottom of this.”
Deva's eyes widened. She looked over at Mian. “Are you sure that's a good idea? He's very dangerous.”
“Don't worry, we've handled him before.”
“Oh...”
Mian sighed again. “Oh, and Shurang came to me earlier. She claims that she might know what caused the dead to rise last Friday.”
Dreva looked away. “Figures.”
“Now now, Dreva. She was with me that night, so I know it wasn't her.” Mian said, scooting closer to her. “Anyway... I'm glad you woke up. I didn't want you to miss that exam today.”
“Oh! What time is it?”
Mian looked at her watch, then realized that she forgot to wind it. She then turned, looking at the clock mounted on Dreva's bedroom wall. “3:25. You have another half hour. Better start getting ready.”
Dreva hastily stood up right before collapsing back onto her bed, grasping her head.
Mian put her hand on Dreva's shoulder. “If you're having this much trouble, I can get them to reschedu-”
“No!” Dreva sassed, pushing Mian's hand away. She then sat up to get her bearingsas Ratsi hopped out of her lap. “I can do this...”
“Dreva, this is serious. I know you were recommended, but if you fail the test, they'll-”
Dreva quickly looked Mian strait in the eye, her own eyes turned fierce and angry, interrupting Mian. “I'M DOING IT!”
Mian backed off as Dreva stood up. Her anger overcame her injuries as she unhesitantly walked out of the room.
