Trinta's Story
Trinta's Story
Mika stepped in the den, seeing her younger brother leaving. "Hey Trinta, where you going?" she asked.
"Gonna go check something out in the eastern district." Trinta said, looking back.
"Oh... mind if I tag along?" she replied, skipping up to him.
Trinta turned back, starting to walk out. "If you're done helping Mom, I guess..."
Mika grabbed her sword staff that was leaning against the wall by the door and scurried out behind him as he was walking down the bricky sidewalk. "Y'know, there's faster ways of getting across town. You don't have to wander around like a dork every day."
"You know I don't have enough magic to do that." Trinta answered. "But that's why I'm going there today."
"Going where?" Mika asked.
"To the Magic Academy." Trinta responded.
"The wha...? But that's a big commitment!" his sister said. "You already finished school, you don't have to go back to another."
"I know. Nothing I can't handle though." Trinta said confidently.
"But... you'll have to move in one of those stinky dorms away from your family."
Trinta stopped at a street intersection and looked around. "It might be too far from there..." he said low himself.
Mika turned to Trinta. "Are you listening? You better not be serious about this!"
Trinta looked over at her. "It was Dad. He said I shouldn't ignore the gifts I had. Then gave a long speech..." Trinta said, then sighed. "Look, I know I get pressured a lot into doing things I don't have the heart for, but this is a really good thing I could have. really It's too big of a chance to ignore, you know?"
Mika stood staring silently at Trinta for a moment, then scowled. "Fine, leave everyone behind..."
A plume of fire appeared directly behind Mika, forming a ring about two meters in diameter. The center started to distort as Mika jumped through the ring, disappearing. The ring of fire then dissipated afterward.
Trinta sighed, turning around and walking to the academy.
As Trinta finally got to the academy, he walked in and looked around, then walked over to the receptionist. "Excuse me.."
"Can I help you?" the male receptionist asked in a cheerfully lispy voice.
"I-I'd like to enroll here." Trinta responded nervously.
"Your just in luck!" the receptionist said. "It's a really slow day and Master Lanoia is available till his 3 o'clock."
"Master Lanoia...?" Trinta asked curiously. "He runs this school too?"
"That's right. And you'll need to see him in person to get in."
"Wow, I never would have suspected... so I can see him now?"
"Yes, dear. Just go up those stairs to the third floor. His office is the second on your right."
"Thanks a lot!" Trinta said, then made his way up the stairs, looking around. "Wow, this is a fancy place..."
Trinta walked up the stairs to the 3rd floor. He noticed a young girl in an academy uniform sitting on a chair in front of the door he was instructed to go to. He went over to the door and knocked. He looked down at the girl and smiled. The girl looked at him expressionless, then turned away.
"Enter, please." a man's voice said from through the door.
Trinta opened the door and walked in. He looked around, then saw a dark red-haired man standing at a tall table, reading a book. The man took off his reading glasses and looked over. "Oh hi there." the man greeted.
"H-hello. I hope I'm not bothering you, sir." Trinta stuttered.
The man closed the book. "Not at all. I'm Salori Lanoia. And I'm not sure I recognize you..."
"The guy at the front desk sent me up here... I'd like to enroll..."
"Ah, I see." Salori said, walking over to his desk. He then took out a scroll. "You'll need an appointment to come back for an entrace exam. Is tomorrow good for you?"
"Oh, uh... yeah, that's fine."
"Okay then... what's your full name?"
"Trinta Ralvo, sir."
"Trin... ta... Ral... vo..." Salori said, saying what he was writing down. "Alright, now your I.D...."
"Ah," Trinta said, reaching in his left pocket, then pulled out a laminated card, handing it to Salori.
Salori then looked at the card, then started writing in the scroll once again. A few seconds later, he presented the card back to Trinta, who took it and put it back in his pocket.
"Okay then, come back tomorrow around noon."
"Thank you, sir." Trinta said in gratitude.
"Anything else?" Salori asked.
"No sir." Trinta said.
Trinta breathed a big sigh of relief as he was walking from the building. "That was a LOT easier than I thought..."
Trinta walked eagerly back home to tell the family. He came in the back, around to the yard. He plopped down on the chair in the back porch to rest. "5 mile walk... so tired..."
Just then, Mika walked across the backyard to Trinta carrying their staves. "Trinta, here!" she said, tossing him his staff.
"W-what's this for?" he asked, catching the staff.
"I'll train you." Mika said, leaping back and grinning. "The same way I learned from Grandma."
"...huh?" Trinta said, puzzled. "That won't be fair, your staff is all pointy and sharp. Besides, I'll be going to the Academy full time soon."
Mika huffed, slamming the bottom of her staff to the ground, creating a spinning circle of flames around her. "No, we're using our magic. You make the first move."
Trinta stood up with his staff glowing an orange hue. "I know what this is about..." he said, as blocks of soil emerged from the ground. He hit the back of one with his staff, causing it to hurl toward Mika.
"What, can't a girl spar with her brother?" Mika said, swiftly slicing the chunk of soil in two. Then, the ring of fire appeared behind her once more. "First Gate - Fire Garden!"
A ring of fire that outlined the entire backyard formed. Trinta ran forward as it enclosed, looking back as it charred the chair he was sitting in. "Are you crazy?!? Dad's gonna kill you!"
Numerous balls of fire attached to stems rose from the ground around Mika. "Pay attention!" she exclaimed, swinging her hand as the fireballs flew toward Trinta.
Trinta scowled. launching the rest of the soil blocks, intercepting the fireballs. "Look, I'm not staying." he said, then turned around. He walked up to the wall of fire, parting it with his hand, then walked out.
The flames completely dissipated from the backyard just then. Mika dropped her staff and ran up to Trinta. "Please don't go..."
Trinta sighed. "You won't leave it alone, will you?"
Mika looked quietly back at Trinta with a sad look in here eyes.
"How about this... I'll let you bring me to and from school with your gate." Trinta said. "But I need to do this..."
Mika smiled. "...you mean it?"
"Of course." Trinta said assuredly. "I wasn't leaving to get away from my only sister."
Mika grabbed Trinta with a hug. "That means a lot..."
"Mika, this is embarrassing..." Trinta complained.
Mika broke off. "Yeah... heh."
"Now if you don't mind, my legs hurt." Trinta said as he turned and ran to the house.
"Hey! You come here and spend time with your sister!!!" Mika huffed, chasing after him.
