Melimei's Life
Melimei's Story
Melimei's Story
The sun streamed through the pink curtains covering Melimei's window as she rolled over. Her room was decorated in pink and white, with pictures of Magical Girl Lyra, Melimei's favorite book series. Her cat jumped up on the bed and rubbed against her.
"Morning Lyra," Melimei said sleepily as she scratched the cat behind the ear. She got out of bed and washed up, then headed downstairs to eat breakfast.
"Just in time Mei," her mother said as Melimei walked into the dinning room. "I just finished making your breakfast."
"Thanks mom," Melimei said. "Did dad leave for work already?"
"Yup, he left just before sunrise," her mother said as she went into the kitchen to get Melimei's food. "Did you have something you wanted to talk to him about?" her mother asked from the other room.
"No... It's just it'd be nice to see him in the morning sometimes..." Melimei replied as she sat down in her usual chair at the table.
"You know how he is," her mother replied as she returned with the food. "Really, that man never listens to me... Work work work is all he ever talks about it seems. Anyway, here's your breakfast Mei."
"Ah pancakes," Melimei said as she started eating.
"I'll go clean up then," her mother said.
Melimei finished her breakfast and went upstairs to get changed. Her cat was sleeping on her bed curled up in the sun. She gathered up her school stuff and put a copy of the latest volume of Magical Girl Lyra in her bag. Then she went down to leave for school. "I'm going mom," Melimei said as she headed toward the door.
"Have a good day," her mother called out.
"Nice weather," Melimei thought as she left the house. She headed over to her friend, Lan's house and rang the bell.
"Ah Melimei," Lan's mother said as she opened the door. "Sorry, but that lazy son of mine is still sleeping."
"Don't worry, I'll wake him up," Melimei sad as she headed over to his room. She burst through the door. "Hey, Lan! Wake up already!" she said loudly. "You want to make us late? Geez, you'd think you could wake yourself up on a school day at least. I don't know what you'd do without me to wake you up."
Lan sat up in bed, still looking groggy. "Ah Mel, good morning," he said, still half asleep.
Melimei tossed his school uniform's shirt at him. "Hurry up and get dressed," she said. "You're not going to have time to eat unless you get a move on. I'll be waiting outside." she left the room and closed the door behind him.
Lan got up, and got dressed. He left his room.
"Took you long enough," Melimei said, as she leaned against the wall in the hallway. "You mother probably has breakfast ready."
"Yeah," Lan said. He headed toward the kitchen.
"Ah you're up, Lan. Good job, Melimei," his mother said. "Did you eat breakfast yet?"
"Yup," Melimei replied.
"Ok then, just breakfast for my lazy son then."
"Mom!" Lan protested as his mother put his breakfast on the table.
"When you can get up on your own without Melimei dragging you out of bed you can complain," his mother replied.
Lan finished his breakfast and washed up. Melimei waited by the front door as he then gathered his school supplies and got ready to leave.
"We're off," Lan said as he ran out the door.
"Bye," Melimei said.
"Be careful you two," Lan's mother said as she waved to them.
"You know Mel, you don't have to wake me up every morning," Lan said as they walked to school.
"In that case you'll be up before I get there tomorrow," Melimei responded. "You should just be glad to have someone who's willing to do it."
"I guess... It's kind of embarrassing though," Lan said.
"Geez, you're thinking about it too much," Melimei insisted. "Oh yeah!" Melimei stopped, opened her bag and pulled out a book. "Here's the next volume of Magical Girl Lyra!" She handed the book to Lan.
"Ah," he said as he took the book. "Haha, I still can't believe you named your cat Lyra."
"I like the name, that's all," Melimei insisted. "We need to hurry though or we'll be late" Melimei and Lan continued on the way to school, arriving in plenty of time.
"Oh yeah I forgot!" Melimei exclaimed. "I have a student council meeting after school today."
"Ah ok then," Lan said. "I'll wait for you in the school yard."
"See you after school then," Melimei said.
"See ya," Lan responded. They then split up and went to their classes.
After her meeting, Melimei rushed out of school to meet Lan. She saw him on the other side of the school yard with an older boy.
"Ahaha take that!" the boy shouted as a ball of fire struck the ground near Lan's feet.
"EYAA!" The Lan shrieked as he jumped back from the flame.
"HA! Just like a little girl!" the older boy snorted.
"STOP IT YOU BULLY!" Melimei shouted as she ran up, taking position between Lan and the bully. "How old are you anyway? Picking on a kid younger than you like that. Have you no shame?" She lectured the older boy. Melimei defiantly stared down the older boy.
"Oh looky here," the bully said with a sneer. "The little girly boy is being protected by his little girlfriend." He formed another fireball. "I think maybe you should apologize you your elders. I'd hate to have to singe that pretty hair of yours."
"Go ahead and try it." Melimei challenged. "Do you think you scare me just because you can use magic? You're just a bully that likes picking on people weaker than you. You don't have the guts." Melimei stood there defiantly with her arms crossed.
"M... Mel... M... Maybe you should apologize to him..." Lan said meekly.
"You have to stand up to bullies like this," she insisted.
"Damn it, take this you brat!" The bully shouted as he tossed the fireball. It flew past Melimei's head, barely missing her. Melimei stood her ground without flinching.
"I knew it," she said. "You didn't have the guts."
"D-Damn brat," the bully said. "This is getting boring." He turned and walked away.
Melimei turned to Lan. "Geez, you need to stand up for yourself," she lectured.
"B-But he had magic..." Lan responded.
"A bully is a bully," Melimei explained. "Would Princess Lyra let herself get pushed around by monsters from the Dark Mirror World? Didn't you read those Magical Girl Lyra books I gave you? Someone like you could never become a magical girl and fight for justice."
"Umm... I'm a boy," Lan replied. "I can't become a magical girl..."
"Fine... A magical boy then," Melimei responded. "Geez, some people get so wrapped up in details. Anyway, I'm done with my meeting today, let's go home." Melimei started walking to the gate with Lan following.
